I'm not a fan of Sparity, but I think the ship is ok and Rarity isn't too old for Spike. He's egg hatched when Twilight was a filly, so that means she had to be at least 5 years older than him at the time, meaning Spike is just 5 years younger than Twilight and older than the CMC.

( aside form Thorax, but we haven't even seen much of their relationship, seeing as they have only had two episodes together, so they could treat others as equals. No way to tell though. )

He is a baby in dragon years, and still WILL BE having even 50 years. (Someone said so, I quoted him.) You just take the "baby dragon" in its exact meaning, but you should NOT. Actually he lives long enough to become a teenager in mental point, learn how to walk, how to speak etc. Damn, just listen to his voice; in the latest episodes he sounds much more deeper, like an older teenager. So your whinings about "he is baby, it's wrong!" are freaking hilarious. Moreover; at first you say he is a baby, then you say he is around 8-10 (more like child than baby...). That "BABY" has made a serious mess in your closed minds. Of course he was a "very-very-baby" when he hatched. But baby is a baby, with a dummy, in the nappies, in the cradle.

Right now spike is around 12-13 ish which is kinda suggested by him (spoiler) getting his wings. (Not mentally no, but physically).
while the mane 6 are confirmed to be of teenage ages, though I think they are more 17-18 than 16 like most stereotypical teenage brands market.
Pony and in EG they are confirmed and suggested to be near-adult age.

Reasons:
1. Spike is a reptile, and Rarity is a mammal. It is biologically impossible for them to have kids.
2. Rarity makes Spike take out the garbage, be used as a pin cushion, and carry all of her bags and suitcases multiple times.
3. Spike doesn't really care about Rarity in the way you think anymore. He didn't even care when she liked Trenderhoof!
4. Dragons only grow by greed. Spike is mentally mature, but he will never become an adult.
5. Also, in all the times that he has grown bigger (The Cutie Mark Chronicles, Secret of My Excess) he is shown to be dumber. Derped eyes, and being unable to manage more than a few sentences.

Dragons have a tendency to grow slower, except for when they're greedy, and that's largely in part because dragons can live for thousands of years.
