So it is still smoky smelly Thursday and I find a cafe to take a rest. This couple, sits in front of me and I feel an urge to take a photograph.As I was trying to decide how to setup my frame and how to do it in order not to distress them, the old man gave me the impression of a rather grouchy man... don't know... at least it was not love at first sight!
Then as people continued to drink and rather had enough alcohol, the old lady next to him - his wife apparently - came to the mood and with other women in her age started to dance inside the cafe, by the band that was playing some tunes.... Panic in the cafe!!!
I then saw this "grouchy" old man, getting up, so happy for his wife, getting a bottle of champagne and started treating all the people in the cafe and the band!! Not in a poser style but in the context that we greeks call "meraklis"! Needless to say that his face no longer had that stiff look but a smile to the ears!!

For some reason I have this affection to portraits taken at cafés. I don't know why, maybe it's because I love cafés myself. Anyway.
I like the smoke. The texture of the man's leather jacket. How there's so much light in the background and sort of crowded inside, this nice busy feeling that usually is in cafés.
And part of the charm is made by your description. I feel that I'd like this guy. Or at least would like to take a photo of him.
Oh and I love the light on the woman's hair!

I love this atmosfere of cafes too. Especially those ones old-fashioned, vintage!

That's cool, I must get to Greece before you ban it too (bet it's only a question of time)! Here in Stockholm we poor smokers have to stand out in the snow and the freezing degrees with our cigs, and I'm seriously thinking of quit - for what time in order I dunno! And it's the same in London and Spain and Helsinki and Rejkjavik and wherever I've been the last two years (And Rejkjavik even means Smoky City for Bob's sake

I dont really know.... here in Greece the majority of the population smokes... so I guess it's all a matter of economics!! If a cafe bans smoking none will go!

I thought the same about Sweden, that this law wouldn't pass because there are so many smokers and most of them frequents bars and cafés and places and they want to sit inside neatly and have their ciggies, or else they wouldn't go out. We've had smokers corners and non-smokers corners for ages, no law, just tradition and it has worked just fine.
Then suddenly, and no doubth inspired by the US of A they wish to ban smoking in all restaurants and cafés, making it mandatory!!
IMO that should be something every bar- or café- owner should decide, but I seem to be a minority opinion here.
