Species: panthera leo (African lion; Afrikanischer Löwe)

Location: Zoo Dortmund, Germany
Distritbution: Wild lions currently exist in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia with a critically endangered remnant population in northwest India, having disappeared from North Africa, the Middle East, and Western Asia in historic times.

Status: vulnerable (unexpected isn`t it? Please have a look: [link] ); possibly irreversible population decline of 30 to 50 percent over the past two decades in its African range. habitat loss and conflicts with humans

Extra: Lions live for around 10–14 years in the wild, while in captivity they can live over 20 years. They sleep up to 20h a day in the wild.

--> Ever heard about "canned animal hunting"? [link] [link] That is breeding animals like lions just to be shot by tourist "hunters" when they are grown to end as a trophy on the wall. It is sad that people really want to shoot a lion at all, if breed for this "purpose" or not.
