Description Final shot in the Captain's fishing holiday series. The scene setup for this is in my scraps. The final polycount is quite amazing considering the low complexity of the shot (its all the bubbles as the ships hull shield breaks surface and releases its air. ( water never touches the hull when its parked, theres a thin shield surrounding it maybe 6 inches thick)

Final polycount : 196,140,070 polygons

Y'know, I made a comment when we first say this scientific ship in Star Trek III ages ago, saying something about the hull looked more aquatic like and I wondered if it could go into an atmosphere. I quickly dismissed this since I always thought they did NOT take warp cores into an atmosphere recklessly (or at all) because a breech could trigger an explosion that would damage a planet. Years later, they made runabouts (which I like) which could land on planets and even the Voyager (which I about flipped out about) landed on a planet.

Since then ... I dunno.

One way to land a whopper!

Very very neat!

This image really fascinates me ...about space craft design serving a greater or other functions than just singular interplanetary voyaging.
Of course "the YAMATO" is always seen doing this dual function.

not all ships "land" on solid ground, some like this Oberth, are more suited to oceanic landings.

They never have yet explored or visualized many of these other functions/ abilities in the varying shows or movies ..aside from "STAR TREK: Voyager".
They ought to.
It would expand their envelope of storytelling.

It just gives us, that play with these things, more breadth of scope I suppose.

Oberth Class, a refit of the same multirole type of ship that was Grissom in search for spock.

I always thought that in space the shields should shine like the northern lights when impacted, and then seem to dissipate.
