You're using GIMP right? Theres a ton of tutorials floating around for it [link]

and you might want to get UFRaw if you don't have it already - it lets you edit raw files in GIMP

Fantastic contrast.

It's blinding, if you look at the snow and then the squirrel. I like how it's almost blended in to the twigs and such under its feet.

The positioning isn't bad either, although I would have personally placed it in the left corner a bit more instead of the left side.

I wish I'd gotten a bit lower - but the little guy ran away as soon as he heard the shutter. To the left how so?

How do you mean how so? O.o

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kamal-Q In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-09 21:23:19 +0000 UTC]

yeah animals and their reflexes - what can you do. Though pidgins in the city are totally adapted to humans - the pidgins even eat fast food chicken

I meant to ask what you meant by "I would have personally placed it in the left corner a bit more instead of the left side" , whats the 'it' ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-01-09 21:28:48 +0000 UTC]

I know! When you run towards them, they just stand still, walk a bit further away and look at you with contempt.

Although, we have pigeons, not pidgins. O.o

Well... the squirrel, I guess.

It's an 'it'. Sue me. xD

haha making fun of my spelling - I imagine you sitting in front of your PC laughing much like this [link]

English is a messed up language man - don't blame me

Makes sense - but the poor guy would be so offended... theres a Native American somewhere with a single tear rolling down his cheek

3wyl In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-01-09 21:43:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, actually, I was very confused, and that baby is darn right evil.

But yeah, I actually went to google and typed it in to make sure we were talking about the same birds. O.o

Dude, you live in the US. The spelling there is...

And also, was the accent of that woman American too?

Similarly, it would be offended if actually, the guy was a girl. >.>

So in essence, best stick with 'it'

I think that child has fused and quite successfully.... this kids pretty good though [link]

Pidgin is apparently a fake language or a hodgepodge of language(s) - and the birds name is spelled pigeon (in all parts of the English speaking world I think) - but rather than take blame for my mistake - I blame the people that formulated this pidgin of a language - besides my firefox spellcheck misled me too (obvious conspiracy against me)

Yeah thats an American accent - sounds a bit like Sarah Palin (was Governor of Alaska ran for Vice President) - I'd say its a Midwestern accent.

You got a point there man

3wyl In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-01-09 22:03:49 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, I would say so.

It’s scary for one so young to have mastered that. O.o

Yes! I thought it was something like that.

Ooh… You need to get that sorted. Shoot it down before it shoots you!

My firefox never misleads me. xD

I wonder where yours is misleading you to. O.o

Interesting… It’s a funny one.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kamal-Q In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-09 22:12:20 +0000 UTC]

Shoot the evil baby? Firefox? the squirrel ? o.O - perhaps they're all a part of the conspiracy

I wish I knew where it was headed man - I wish I knew

Its a kind sounding accent man - I bet you didn't even laugh at the baby - just the accent of the lady speaking, since I imagine you're quite used to that sort of laughter. British accents are funnier anyway

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-01-09 22:20:45 +0000 UTC]

Knowing the evil baby, if we came within distance to hear its laugh, it'd kill us purely from it.

The other two might be more easier to shoot. O.o

Kind?

KIND?!

It was downright evil too.

Oh really?

How are they funnier?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kamal-Q In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-09 22:35:03 +0000 UTC]

You maybe right about the baby

How did the mother sound evil man ?- I think your ing has altered your perceptions of "good and evil"

Man - where ever there is Hollywood there is the American English accent - its the norm - where as the British accent is really an aberration [link]

I don't know if that accent is the norm, for you.

You have a BBC anchor accent ? It sucks to be a TV journalist when the teleprompters fail - clever editing

My accent is much like this [link] - and my thoughts are almost always along the same lines

how come you're not ing as much?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-01-11 19:57:49 +0000 UTC]

My accent is like a BBC anchor accent, yes. That's the only one I can find that's similar to my own accent.

That's just too cute.

That accent isn't as bad as the other, actually. I don't know if it's just because the other was a female, but it was too whiny. >.>

It's intriguing... accents I mean.

I don't know, but I know that I never ed that much. O.o

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kamal-Q In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-11 23:30:59 +0000 UTC]

What a horrible accent to have man - so formal, but I guess everyone outside of Britain must think you're a genius simply cause you speak the way you do

Where do you think accents come from?

what ? Man - if I wasn't so lazy I tried to find that message where you said that ing wsa your primary preoccupation

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-01-12 19:52:18 +0000 UTC]

Formal? O.o

Isn’t that all just about perception anyway?

Ah, but you see, I don’t know. I don’t know what other people think of British accents.

That’s an interesting question. o.O

Doesn’t the many languages we have now originate from something that was mentioned in the Bible?

I never said that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kamal-Q In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-12 22:46:24 +0000 UTC]

you're right - it is just a perception, and I wonder if colonialism has anything to do with it. Colonial masters subduing a people and exploiting them could leave quite a mental scar...

I've been trying to bring myself to read the Bible - but I haven't yet (honestly I'd rather read the apocryphal texts)...I do think all languages are linked cause humanity is linked. I think much like how our physical appearances changed (people with greater exposure to the sun got darker etc.) language changed as we did...

It is an interesting question for sure - never gave it much thought - what do you think?

Dude you definitely said something like it as far as I recall, I could be wrong...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-01-13 20:05:23 +0000 UTC]

That’s true. =/

Some say that the scars you don’t see are the hardest to heal.

I haven’t read the Bible, but I’ve heard and read snippets before. Reading the Bible would be like reading the Dictionary. >.>

Still, it would be so much easier if we all spoke the same language, although… possible more boring, but still.

Hmm… Well, it is said we used to grunt. O.o

It said something about Jesus (Or God) making it so that all his disciples spoke different languages so that they could pass on the word of God and stuff. I really don’t know.

If one steps away from that and goes to logic/science, then one would think about evolution and how we’ve just evolved in different ways and all of that.

Oh really? o.O

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kamal-Q In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-13 20:36:19 +0000 UTC]

You're right about that

I don't know if its like the dictionary - I'm sure there's wisdom to be found in it...depends on the person interpreting. Most people now project their own inner faults in to their holy books and find justifications for things they know to be wrong.

If we used to grunt what would cause us to change ? I think there isn't any other animal thats able to conceptualize abstract ideas. I imagine if I say it was raining - in your mind you picture it raining. But if I said it to a monkey or a dolphin - I think they'd think its actually raining (if they could comprehend the words) . I don't think animals can form sentences for the future or past tense

Even according to evolution all modern humans would have a common ancestor right? I mean that all races of human beings are of the same origin and racial & lingual differences are small adaptations that have occurred due to geography/diet perhaps...

I'm too lazy to look up something thats not all that important - and I don't even know where to look

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-01-14 20:19:54 +0000 UTC]

That’s true, I guess.

Hmm… Some do, yes. You don’t really need the Bible or any other holy book to justify for things that people know to be wrong. People will just come up with an excuse regardless. =/

Grunting in different ways? O.o

I mean, a clan could get separated, and then grunts could evolve at different paces into different things, leading to the languages we have today.

True, that. =/

Still, a lot of our words come from Latin, no?

Mm-hmm. That makes sense.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kamal-Q In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-14 21:14:10 +0000 UTC]

True - people make excuses

What would cause the change from grunting to actual language where we can communicate abstractions ? You could argue social cohesion, but birds and other animals that move in groups seem to get along fine (perhaps better) than us in group situations...

I think there are just a few root languages right? Indo-European (Hindi, German, Persian, Latin) - Semetic (Arabic, Hebrew) and I guess the African and Asian languages could share a root...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-01-15 20:22:22 +0000 UTC]

To actual language, I imagine… quite a lot of time.

Possibly because we have more intelligent thoughts than they do, and possibly what society has done to us too… that, and environments and stuff.

I mean, an animal’s life is pretty simple, no? Of course, I don’t know what it’s like to be running around wild and free, but it’s all about survival for them.

There are a few root ones, yes. I thought German came from Latin? O.o

Mm-hmm.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kamal-Q In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-15 20:38:58 +0000 UTC]

But what came first our "superior" intelligence or language? I would study a bit of linguistics cause it seems slightly interesting - but I imagine its really dry...and I know I lack the perquisite knowledge to really even think about the details of it.

Yeah animals are driven primarily by instinct rather than any sort of intellectual motive.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Kamal-Q [2010-01-16 20:42:36 +0000 UTC]

Interesting question, that.

Because we weren't that superior, intelligence wise, back in those days... We just evolved to be, no?

Mm-hmm. I'm not a great fan of linguistics myself.

Woah... O.o

Where did you find that?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kamal-Q In reply to 3wyl [2010-01-16 22:38:54 +0000 UTC]

Honestly I don't know - science is prone paradigm shifts, but I love reading stuff on it as it comes out (short articles not books ). Noam Chomsky has some lengthy works on Linguistics out - and how it is that we can learn language. I just might grab one of his books cause my interest at this point is piqued...

I asked Google - and he was kind enough to point me in the right direction
