Description
Lining the shallow shores of the Midsea, large congregations of reef-building organisms form vast networks of underwater mesas and valleys. These labyrinthine structures support an incredible diversity of marine organisms that shelter and forage for food among the jagged rocks.
This marine ecosystem in turn supports a large number of aerial predators such as the trio of kabuki flipwings depicted here as well as the painted twintail circling high above them.
While these kinites are common in the reefs, the lone hedammid swimming through a channel of deeper water is a rare sight. Usually native to the open ocean, smaller individuals like this one sometimes venture into the reefs in hopes of an easy meal.
