From an old box of artwork I found, these sketches are from way back in 2005 for a comic idea called "Nina's Little Horror Story". The comic would have featured Nina Cortex in an alternate version of reality where everything was twisted and creepy. The concept however never got past the character sketches phase.

Forever ago (back when Crash Twinsanity came out) I had wanted to draw a comic about Cortex's niece, Nina. Because Nina's portion of the Twinsanity game took place at the Academy of Evil which was filled with horror themed settings and enemies (gargoyles and living frankenstein dolls, acid leaking from the floors and ceilings) so I had wanted to draw a horror themed comic about Nina. The plot for the comic would have been about Nina coming across a magic tome in the academy library and unleashing magic and monsters into the world, thus changing everyone and everything into a twisted nightmare. She would then team up with a gargoyle (Lockbolt!) who was also unleashed from the magic book to fight against the undead, monsters and nightmare versions of the Crash cast. Everything would turn back to normal after defeating the author of the book, the necromancer Valthar, who also had been set free. Nobody would have had any memory of what happened except Nina and her new gargoyle friend.

However, at the same time information surfaced about a cancelled Crash game called "Cortex Chaos" that unfortunately Traveler's Tales didn't get to make because the Crash series got passed off to another developer. The game would have featured Dr. Cortex as the main character fighting against the rest of the villains who wanted revenge on him for turning against them during the events of Twinsanity. (Since Cortex was teamed up with Crash in that game.)

So what I ended up doing was combining the ideas into one, which became the series I drew called "Cortex Complex". (Read it here: [link] ) Which kept the idea of Nina as the main character teaming up with a gargoyle, but also having the rest of the villains seeking revenge against the Cortex's.
