Description Here's another fun little non-canonical Nineteen-Ninety-Something scenario I came up with the other day - what if Joel, Katy, William, and Tina went for an underwater family portrait session? Obviously, none of them are professional underwater models, so all of them are more focused on holding their breaths than looking photogenic. This probably won't be going on the wall behind the couch, then

I'd like to see them do one in the OTDE timeline when they're all older.

This probably won't be the last time you see her there, either

My only concern is the fact that Katy, Tina, and William actually look happy. Somebody call 911 and report a kidnapping (or not, as this might be a pleasant break for Joel XD).

I like ^^
but I do not like half-hearted eyes of Tina, I prefer a photo like that of Jamie's family but I realize that it would not have been a realistic photo.
However I chose the various poses for Tina and Marion's commissions
do you want to see them?

Ah, what a break you're allowing this family to take from their dark, twisted world of psychopathy and reprehensibility and who knows what other sorts of madness their strip is filled with. Kudos to you for attempting to deviate from our expectations, in the name of "art for art's sake!"

Real talk: I drew a couple more variations on this theme yesterday, and I made an interesting discovery - I get more creative satisfaction out of depicting the Maxwells as a relatively normal family than I do from making them a hot dysfunctional mess. So after the "Tina's moral crusade" story arc ends in October, I'm going to make a conscious effort to dial back on the unpleasantness in their lives. Because where they are now is probably the darkest they've been yet, and as they say, it's always darkest before the dawn.

That's actually a goal of mine for the series as a whole, to eventually get my characters to the point where they push past the darkness and achieve some comfort and normalcy. The next step after Tina's arc ends will be resolving the multiple conflicts going on in Lindsay's family, who are hands down the most thoroughly screwed-up people I've ever written. I plan to wrap that arc up by April 1993, and I'm gonna have to work hard to give them a satisfying conclusion, but with what I have in mind, I think I can pull it off.

No problemo, Jesse. Just persevere and you most certainly will.
