When I decided to reboot Nineteen-Ninety-Something, I promised myself that I'd turn it back into something fun for me to write and draw. And anybody who knows me knows how much I love doing underwater scenes. So you can expect to see a fair few in the new strips I'll be drawing! I didn't attempt too many underwater sequences in Nineteen-Ninety-Something before because I thought they might feel gratuitous, but then I decided "What the heck, it's my comic, I'll draw what I want!" As long as it serves the story, what's stopping me?
Another opportunity I wanted to seize was expanding on ideas for stories that I only hinted at before. With the removal of Rick's gun-happy story arc from 1993, I suddenly had a lot of gaps to fill that year, so I scoured my Sunday strips for gags that I could blow up into week-long stories. Here's one: remember that Free Willy strip where Jenny says she wants to bust into an aquarium and set a whale free? Well, why just talk about that when I could actually show it? 'Course, the only aquarium around in suburban Minneapolis is the Sea Life Aquarium in the Mall of America, and they ain't got no whales - but there's plenty of other fish for Jenny and Eric to liberate, so why not start small? Whether or not they'll get away with it, that's a different matter...
Jenny and Eric's larger-than-life adventures are some of my favorite stories to write, and I'm looking forward to when I can draw this one. And to the rest of my fellow underwater fans, get ready to see a bit more of my submerged creative passion bubbling into Nineteen-Ninety-Something in the future

Even though I will probably never warm up with the enthusiasm for underwater pictures in the near future, the ideas are nice to watch.
Together with likeable characters, you can come up with interesting stories, whose characters literally never run out of air, and see the sea as your second home. If I dared to take an underwater picture with my favorite characters, it would look like anything but underwater around them, more like space gravity or something completely different, because I lack the experience to create such effects, especially with your first water pictures.
I could give it a try, but it probably wouldn't be the same. Your strength is underwater painting and you can be proud of that.
I will continue to watch your characters in your life, especially as some favorites gradually caught my eye.

Is that a mayonnaise jar? Normally, who brings a jar of mayo to an aquarium?, but anything in a mall is going to be used as a trash can by SOMEone. Does this mean that Michelle will have to buy them dry clothing?
It may not be a heist movie, but if the employees can't keep the garbage out, someone will.
