Description Acryllic on canvas, no reference 2009

This is a commissioned character portrait of Amyrillis the halfling rogue. It took five weeks to paint but nearly a year to develop the concept. It is my first full sized painting since grade eleven.

This is also the first use of my new artist signature. It's the little sword looking thing in the bottom left. It is a stylised combination of my initials B.G.D in lowercase.

The colors are really vivid; what type of paint did you use? I've scanned paintings before and they usually look dull.

I used Atelier artists acrylics. They are quite a bit more expensive than student acrylics but worth the investment. Also, rather than scanning I took a photo at maximum zoom (to reduce distortion) in natural light.

I can't say I like this one, her expression is kind of strange, the colours are msotly primary ones, and I think you could've done more with the composition

At last! Thank you. I've been wracking my brain is to why this one isn't more popular. That makes sense. I'll definitely take that into account for my next painting.

This is so beautiful. I especially love the black shadow vines at the bottom, it adds a lovely depth a feel to this overall piece. The details of this are great as well.

I really like the stylisation, her expression is awesome. For a first full size it is very impressive, I like the perspective and detail in the background, especially the fade to convey the distance.
I'm kinda jealous, but that's always a good thing when it comes to art, you know you're doing something right.
Hope to see more soon, this was deffinitely worth the work that's gone into it.

And if Jo had a dA account, she'd as well.

Well done, Jamin! This is an awesome painting. Now we just have to adventure in the setting depicted.

I just finished the painting this morning. The girl who commissioned it will be comming round tonight for our regular game. The character is up to level five now.

Tonight they are sneaking onto a cargo ship and infesting the grain shipment with beatles to prevent a war.

Quite true. Though she's shown pretty good survivability so far. Running away is often a good trait for characters you want to keep.
