My best attempts at photographing lightning, although I have never really tired other than this time. I guess most of it is just luck. Now I can't wait for another storm so I can try this again.Related content

A lot of it is luck. I've always said that getting good shots is 25% knowledge and 75% luck. This is awesome, especially for a first attempt. I got extremely lucky on my first go as well.

We had some giant thunderstorm around here last night, and I've been sitting on the balcony, watching the lightnings rush down... it was an amazing atmosphere, and damn, I was soaked in the end, but I didn't care at all. Better than any movie you can watch.

Thanks. I find the hard part is just being in the right place at the right time. Setting up the shot isn't difficult. And this was taken with the 18-70 lens which I hate. The only reason I use it is because of the wide angle.

Fair enough! I adore my lens... other than macro and a low F stop, it really has everything I need!
