Description
Okay I did a bit of poking on the internet as to whether naturally occuring torus worlds are at all scientifically feasible and could remain stable. It seems to be a mixed bag. I more or less just shrugged and decided the concept was very cool and worthy of inclusion into the setting. After All I've taken a lot of liberties to the point this setting has more or less become space fantasy. So here we go.
One of only six naturally occurring torus worlds ever discovered in the galaxy, and the only one that could be feasibly terraformed. With a major radius of 110,000 kilometers and a minor radius of around 10,000 kilometers the planet possesses a surface area of around 43 billion square kilometers (around half of which was land). This made it the record holder for the largest naturally occurring body (by surface area) ever colonized. The gravity on the surface varied tremendously from 2.1 to 1.5 standard gravities.
The planetβs rapid rotation led to extremely strong tectonic activity and tempestuous weather systems. Immense hyper-hurricanes, powerful earthquakes, tidal waves and volcanoes all posed threats to settlements. Seasons were immensely violent and all colonists had to cope with not only the high gravity but troublesome weather and unstable climate.
The world was a cultural hub boasting a population of twelve trillion. These inhabitants lived in great megalopoli on the planetβs countless continents. Each of these continents comprised distinct ethnic states where the species demographic could vary, many of them immigrants from systems lost in eras past. Virtually all gaussian species coming to live on the planet in some capacity, though some would need genetic or cybernetic augmentation in order to cope with the higher-than-average gravity.
Like Teokya and many worlds on the northern arm, the vegetation on Quitijundi was black to absorb all frequencies of sunlight.
The world was most famous for being the center of the Gaussian trade guild, an agency that mediated government and corporate interests, as well as the galactic stock market.
