For three years I resisted the urge to paint Thranduil, in large part because DeviantArt is already home to just a couple of works featuring the Elvenking. But with the final Hobbit movie coming out this year, it seemed like the perfect time. And to be completely honest, because I never mind looking at photos of Lee Pace.

It took several weeks to get the sketch for this just right (after all, Thranduil would accept no less than perfection!). The actual painting process has been a bit of a marathon, since it's the largest painting I've done for several months. Though I'm not entirely satisfied with how the folds of his robes and cloak turned out, I'm pleased with this overall.
