Description
The USS Pegasus was an Oberth-class ship that was declared lost in 2358. In 2370, the USS Enterprise D rediscovered the Pegasus with half of the ship seemingly materialized within solid rock (TNG: The Pegasus).
Originally, the Pegasus was not intended as an Oberth-class ship, but rather a ship that was basically a kitbash made from parts of the Enterprise C, creating a more compact model. This would make sense - many pinnacle classes have a "compact" version made from the same parts, typically with underslung engines. The Constitution has the Miranda, the Excelsior has the Centaur and Curry, the Galaxy has the Nebula. I don't know if the Sovereign has one, but I'm sure it does.
So this would be the Ambassador-class' compact version. Since we don't have a class name (if it exists I couldn't find it) I named it the Waitomo-class. It is based on an original concept drawing by Rick Sternbach. Sadly the design was never realized. Due to the expensive external shots of the asteroid belt and the asteroid interior in that episode, there simply wasn't enough budget left to create the ship, so they just used the studio model of the USS Grissom (seen in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock).
I tried to stay as true to the original drawing as possible, only adjusting some small details, like moving the impulse exhaust, since the original was placed on the neck, and adjusting the registry texts. Since I only used parts of the actual Ambassador-class model, I did not implement the new pylons though. Artistic freedom I guess.

I did not create the Ambassador-class model used for this project. It was made by James Trexler ( jamietakahashi.deviantart.com) and can be downloaded from www.trekmeshes.ch/
