Description
The Caclas (literally "long sword") is a common type of two-handed sword in Borea, often used by soldiers and militia members, if they can afford it. The blade (Dulen) is forged from pattern-welded steel, 100cm (40" long) and 4.6cm (1.81") at the widest part. It has a distal taper ranging from 6mm (0.236") to 3mm (0.12") and is said to feel quite lively in the hand. The handle (Ladu) is 27cm (10.6") long and has an oval cross section of 3.5cm x 2.5cm (1.38" x ~1") at the widest part. At a weight of only 1.3kg (2.6lbs), the sword is rather light for a two-hander, and thus quite agile.
A typical feature of Borean swords is the disc guard (Cúla) resembling a tsuba as seen on the Japanese katana, in addition to the cross guard (Soldar).
Here, the disc guard is shaped like a triskel (Tridóri) with a ring around it, which is supposed to protect the wielder from harm.
Since I did the one-handed sword, I figured I'd also do a two-handed one of similar design. It was inspired by Danish two-handed swords from the 15th century.
