Description Well after a long break from art, I decided to get back into it by drawing a portrait of my fabulous welshy Buttons.
It was done digitally on Art Studio on my iPad and took about 5 hours in total. I'm pleased with it and it has definitely made me more motivated to get back into drawing and painting again.

I have questions....if you don't mind!
I'm trying to learn to draw on my own IPad (equipped with ArtRage, which I dearly love).  When doing something like this, do you start with a base sketch and layer in color and shading after?  Or do you take another route?  And backround.....do you do that (mostly) first?

Well, that completely depend on the artist. I personally make a fairly detailed sketch first on a separate layer to a one colour background before then adding my base colours and shading on another separate layer. I tend to leave my background until I'm quite far on in the painting to let me think about what would look best. However, some artists simply work on one layer as they would do with a traditional drawing or painting and others won't work with an initial sketch at all.
Hope that helps!

Thanks so much!  So far I have not been able to get very much in the way of information........people just don't seem to be willing to talk.  Your response has been the most verbose by far!
