Oh i feel faces have so many colors, if you study them in different lights, and for this drawing I was very inspired by the oil work of a few artists on Instagram where they subtract the warm and leave only the cold shades, and yet you can see how many hues of colors the skin contains. This is a very good example of what I mean: www.instagram.com/p/BCgcnbzqm-… and I just get captivated looking at it!! I wish I knew oil painting..
But thank you very much for your sweet comment, and I hope you can forgive my late reply, school is very demanding and leaving me no time for art or private time..

That is very true! Unfortunately I havent started a new watercolour portrait, yet I anticipate to paint Curufin next as a part of my Fëanorians series. I have been working on and off on a large traditional drawing of them all and its taken all my attention for the last month, as well as school just keeps me barely floating, so art has been slightly deprioratized lately, which I cannot stand. I really urge to paint again, so I hope I get more time soon!
And thank you, I take it as a huge compliment, especially coming from a talented painter as you!
Oh You're welcome, and yes I finish my Bachelor in Southampton this year. Though I am a true Anglophile, Southampton and especially the Uni is not great. I find myself feeling a bit suffocated, as I'm used to Oslo, which is a MUCH larger city then Southampton, though again much smaller than London. And yeah Uni is just draining all my power and will to live at the moment, with our tutors hardly supporting us in our bachelor project and also we have so many extra assignments, and Im not used to having to work like that. In Oslo we would focus completely on finishing one project before we moved on to the other, with much more intense work days but also much more effective. With this sort of work I find myself with little inspiration or motivation to do any of it, and it feels terrible... Im sorry, I did not mean to unload on you like that, but I am very frustrated atm!
But culturally and socially I completely love England. The people are just so nice and talkative (which says a bit as Norwegians are terrified to say anything to anyone we dont know in fear of insulting them lol). Every year or so I go to London with my family for a Christmas shopping weekend, and I absolutely LOVE London. We usually stay near Oxford Street so the culture and shopping is fantastic. I am also raised in the backseat of a Morgan as my father is a classic car enthusiast and spent most of my summers as a child driving through europe and mostly English countryside, so I have such strong ties to this country. I just think that with my current situation with school and I spent most of the fall being sick so that didnt help, and it all just put Southampton in a very bad light for me, which I regret. The south coast is usually so beautiful, so I hope with better weather and hopefully some better days at Uni it will feel better.
Gosh, sorry for rambling... but I hope I answered your question ^^'
What do you do other than art?

Hi Iggy - sorry for the late response Ohh, that Feanorian piece sounds fun. I completely understand though the lack of time, especially on large pieces that require a lot of thought and attention. I have so, so many old unfinished piece lying around from years back, it really is rather pathetic. Sometimes I wish I could just paint, and do nothing else; I suppose that's the dream of every aspiring artist, but not likely to come true except for a very select few. In any case, I've had a mind to do a 'Princes of the Eldalië' series for a long time now, encompassing individual portraits of all of the Three Houses. But who knows when that will ever come about ...?
We've talked a bit since about Southampton and studies, but I hope things are improving on that front. I guess it's just one of those cases where you need to get through the final months, and all will be well on the other side. As you know, I'm in a similar case (I should be submitting in the coming weeks ), but even then I'll have to have my oral defence, then push myself to publish some journal articles, and then apply for post-docs. Fun times. I think it's normal, though, to flit between inspirational days, and others which are the opposite, and lacking in motivation. Especially if you're artistically inclined, which I think is a synonym for bi-polarity
Interesting to read that you love England so much, but I guess visiting so much and driving to and fro from a young contributes to that. What a cool way to grow an affinity for a country Yes, the S. Coast can be very beautiful; I've studied at Sussex University, so I lived in Brighton for a number of years. I'm now back in Surrey now though, so near enough to London, but who knows where I'll be off to next? Oxbridge, perhaps?
As for my interests outside art? Well art, you see, is a very big part of who I am, as I also play music, guitar, like to travel and so on. Even my PhD in history is, for me, a 'creative outlet'. I love the construction of a narrative, or a piece of music, or a painting, and seeing it through to completion You surely understand, what with your own art and of course film! Anyway, just to say again that this is a great portrait

The watercolour work is actually rather good. You're doing yourself an injustice there. I like the light from the lightning on the side of Caranthir's face. That is very good. I'm a little confused what the lightning is grounding on. It looks sort of like a hill with trees but it isn't really clear.

Thank you so much for saying that, but in my own eyes I feel like I still have a long way to go before I become comfortable with it, but it does not mean at all that I do not enjoy it, I rather love it, and I am eager to continue learning, that is all!^^ And I am really glad you like the painting. It was hard to get the hues and lights I wanted to create the contrast (and its rather gruesomlooking in this photographic version) but I feell like i managed it somehow how I wanted it, and thats a step in the right direction!^^ And yes, the background was significantly quicker done than the portrait, as I wanted it to have a specific style, tho I failed somewhat. It was supposed to be a forest, yes!

Absolutely breathtaking! I think he is your best Feanorian so far! His face looks beautiful, noble and a little bit dangerous. But it's not only the case of fairness of his face. The colours and the use of contrasting hues is pretty impressive in this one! Wonderful work, my dear!

Love the purple! The colours look perfectly fine to me! The shadows on his face, especially around the mouth look great, very realistic and still interesting. All that I would work on is the thunderstorm; lightning bolts from afar are finer, thinner.
*says someone who failed at lightning bolts a couple of times before getting closer to somewhere*

Gosh i struggled so with his mouth, so I am very glad you like that part in particular. Thank you! And yes I know I messed up the storm, I have yet to truly grasp backgrounds and how to do them correctly!

Thank you so much! I really tried to make him dramatic and dark-looking as he is the one with the darkest minds of the sons of Fëanor!^^ Im glad you like the result!^^

You may say you have never mastered the art of water-colouring but this is brilliant. I esp love you blending on his face and armour.
