Description Hi,

Continuing my medieval hammering fray, I ended up with another broken back seax. This is a bit different from the rough seax, I presented a few days ago in the manner that it is a little bit more fancy.
Vikings just loved fancy, shiny, glittering stuff, the remaining hidden gold and silver hoards proves this and even the men wore elaborately ornamented accessories and weapons. We can only imagine how wondrous and fertile their art was before Christianity tamed and forced its uniform romanesque culture upon them.

So back to the seax!
It is a 33 cm long anglo-saxon type seax, with a 17 cm long, 4 cm wide and 6 mm thick damascus blade, which has 120 layers of L6 and W1.2516 tool steels.
The handle is made of antler and oak, all packaged in a thick leather sheath, both decorated with Jellinge style gripping beasts, which were popular in the 10th century.
Hope you guys like it

It is 250 usd, with all fees included!

Hey,

Ibrar Younas???  LOL!!! Of course not.
I can't decide that I am angry or happy that they stole my picture XD If they found it worthy, it must be a rude but direct compliment in a way, after all. Don't you think?
Could you please show me the link?

thanks for letting me know!

www.facebook.com/groups/766447… but since its labled as secret group you might not see it. I made a print-screen i can send you if you dont see it otherwise.

Well - they seem to be pushing their designs to suit nordic markets - some of their attempts look really funny and i guess thats where industrial espionage comes in . Though the fact that they did not attempt ot copy the design in some way but just blatalantly stole the pictures speaks volumes about their business ethics.

All the best,
Kaarel-Kaspar

Thanks a lot!
Meantime I also googled the guy and found the thing on many more facebook groups. I noticed all of them and also wrote a strongly worded pm to the guy itself. Today all of them are unavailable and the guys profile is deleted, so I guess I busted him in the right time Many thanks for letting me know!
I also posted warning threads on various knife related forums, so I hope that no one will be scamed.

"industrial espionage" hehe - I am just a plain amateur smith, and not even a good one. It is interesting though that he chose me to steal from?!
On the other hand, my stuff would be a lot easier to copy than your awesomely complicated works, that's for sure!

Hehei!

He probably just banned you as the picture was there for another 4 days until i accused him of being a liar and some other people chipped in as well.

Well - there is nothing new in making a damascus seax but being so lazy that you dont even make one first and try to make business is pretty low
I think you might sell yourself bit short - your gallery is really nice to look at.

All the best,
Kaarel-Kaspar

Probably not unless you want to spend countless hours of your life trying to settle this legally. Still - raising awareness helps and i have not seen them post anything that does not look like their usual style.

Yes I see it in the same way as you! No way, I want to spend more time on the thing.
I am watermarking all my stuff from now one, hope this will help a bit

Speaking of the devil i have similar problem now. Just found out that industrious chinese have stolen one of my pendant designs and are selling it on aliexpress with my pictures. www.aliexpress.com/store/produ…

Damn it! And they have the nerve to ask twice the price too...hmm
his will never end, my friend. I recommend to start watermarking everything, and pronto!
Btw, what camera do you use to take these nice pictures?

Ugrik In reply to hellize [2016-09-12 19:41:39 +0000 UTC]

The listing was per 10 though so price for one is about 3usd. I am so interested to see how close they have made them so im almost on the verge of ordering before i attempt to report it. Since it is China i have not much faith it would solve anything though.

I really would like to avoid watermarking - i feel it kind a ruins many pictures. Maybe there is less invasive way of doing it with some backround picture or something.

I have a canon 60d with the basic stock 18-55mm IS lens. I like the responsiveness and ease of use for the manual settings semi-pro cameras offer though i think most modern cameras would do the job. Much more important is to build a light-box or just play around with light and have a tripod or something to get good sharpness with low-dispersed lighting conditions and long exposure times. I still have not mastered it and often i take half an hour to get a satisfing result. Things with reflective surfaces are difficult to photograph but as you make knives im sure you know the pain

yeah you're right, I haven't realized the price was for 10 pieces. It must be crapily made, don't wast your money
I have the same feeling about watermarking, but it drives me crazy to see my stuff stolen

I thought you might have a fancy device I am suffering with an ancient little nikon coolpix soapholder since ever, and it is really a pain in the ass to make a half decent picture with it. If the weather is perfect and I make 200 pics in one angle, I am still lucky to have one among them, that is worth showing.
I am lately lurking around photography themed forums (also am interested in macro photography - I like bugs ), and slowly start to realize that a better camera is a must here.
What do you think would a Nikon D3300 camera do the trick? The pics taken with it on the net look decent and it's price isn't astronomical, but I can't really tell since I don't know anything about the technical part.

These knives aren't left or right specified. Especially seaxes! They have cylindrical handles, so it doesn't matter who holds it. Maybe the sheath has to be reversed, but that doesn't matter at all, I can do it
