The octopus is an excellent spirit-animal for Nomoko, because:
1. Octopi and similar cephalopods are actually rather intelligent; cuttlefish actually beat lab rats in tests of intellect!
2-5. Octopi are colourful, have better eyes than humans, are often deadly poisonous, and have TENTACLES!
