I've always wondered, what are those sticks with long white tassels of hair attached? They're not paint or calligraphy brushes, are they?

They're just decorative hair sticks, like westerners use barrettes or hair ties. And it's not tassels of hair, they're strips of cloth or ribbon hanging off. Again, for decorative purpose, but the stick actually holds hair in place.
