i get an awful feeling this scene went like this:Β
It was early dawn, before the sun even began its ascent into the morning sky, when a cry was heard throughout the halls. Jolted awake by the desperate wail, Thranduil, King of Mirkwood, flew from his bed, threw on his dressing gown, and ran out the door. He knew that sound and he had to hurry. He soon stopped outside of a wooden door depicting flying finches and various flowers, hearing the wailing continue within. He gripped the handle and pushed open the door, seeing his young son Legolas in the arms of his nursemaid. "My king," the young elleth replied with a quick and awkward bow. "I have tried everything, my lord. He just will not settle." "Give him to me," Thranduil replied, holding out his strong arms to take the young ellen. The nursemaid gently placed the toddler within the kings arms and with a quick nod to her lord she left the room to give them privacy.Β
"Now, now, Legolas," the mighty king crooned. "It is alright. I am here." The small boy continued to sniffle and weep, though the wailing had finally ceased. "Shhh. Shhh, everything is well."Β
"Nana." the young prince whimpered into his father's shoulder. "Ada, I want nana."Β
Thranduil's heart gave a painful lurch and he felt the air rush out of his lungs as his son's words came to his ears. "I know, my boy," he replied his throat thick, trying with all his might to contain the tears that threatened to fall. "You will see her again one day. She is with our lord Mandos, safe and sound. And soon will be reborn in Valinor. She loved you more than anything. She still does, I know it."
Thranduil stood there with his young son in his arms, rocking him and holding him tight until the young prince had finally quieted and fell asleep against his father's chest. Thranduil laid his dear son back down into his bed, swept his hair out of the babe's face, and placed a light kiss on his son's forehead, before tucking him in and moving across the room. Thranduil closed the door as quietly as he could and, as soon as the door was shut, laid his forehead against the smooth, cool wood. "I want her back too, son...I want her back too," he whispered as tears slowly descended down his perfect face.Β

Nana- Mama/mommy
Elleth- female elf
Ellen- male elf
Mandos- Valar of Death/rebirth....their "God of death" i guess you could say.Β

After I saw the 3rd Hobbit movie, I finally get to see Thranduil's softer side.Β
Although he doesn't show it, I think he would be the comforting type. LoveΒ
