AUTUMN - Year 757 of the New Age oakfern - leading into blackwood territory
And where will you go? there was no humor in the disembodied voice. No emotion to suggest what they were thinking. It left a cold shiver running through Mindelan. When she made the decision ( brash as it was ) to run away she hadn't thought about how she could never, truly, escape Gaelach. For his part he was wise enough not to mention it. After all the well aged and cautious oracle was now behaving like a fawn in her first rut with parents locking her up- basically like an idiot. So you will not speak with me?
Would she speak with him? If she did he could talk her out of it. Of course he could always talk her out of it by reading her thoughts and replying- or simply talking. Exactly, she sighed and shook out her long, unbraided mane. There was an exasperated sigh in her mind and she wondered if it was just a mental echo of her own sigh or really Gaelachs frustration reaching her. More likely the former than the latter.
Shaking her tiny head she bolted again, careful to stick to brightest patches of the trail she chose- her blindness seared by the sunlight even further until all she saw were patches of BRIGHT and DARK. Where will you go? Away, far, far away.
Chitter-chit-TWIT! "Nanny?" hope filled her voice and she slid to a stop, stumbling on a tree root. But no, it was a younger, frightened squirrel and it fled as soon as she spoke. Her threat dried and constricted, her heart clenched painfully. AWAY!
And so she ran, again. Ran and left behind everything she held dearest. Iskanisk, Berach - the silly warrior with the brave heart like his father - the Herd, the Caves Gaelach.
A warm chuckle filled her entire being and it was the last she heard or felt from her God in her head-long pitch into blackwood territory. He had not abandoned her, even if she fled him, but he would give her the space she so childishly craved.
Long through the day she ran, stumbled, tripped, staggered and fled until she was as turned around and turned around could get. Night fell and with it her exhaustion captured her. She threw herself into a hollow beneath a massive oak tree and its upraised roots, sealing her chosen den with ice to hide from predators and let all else within her collapse as she faded into fitful slumber.
And so Mindelan officially flee's Oakfern ( i don't know why, don't ask me why.... )
