I'm gonna feel stupid for asking but is this Chinese Japanese or something else

I could be wrong but I feel this is more Japanese based on the sword alone.Β These swords, there are a few different types and names but I will just go with Katana, are normally found and associated with Japan.Β Although China and Japan do have some cultural similarities, Chinese swords, swords that normally associated with Chinese culture, such as the Dao or Jian, are different in that have a different hilt and sheath.Β But that is the opinion of a Amateur.
