I really, really, really love this artwork. First off I love the idea: mermaids are usually drawn in the sea, on a rock, and linked to a feeling of freedom. Here we can definitely relate to the title "stuck" as the mermaid is not in a large, free waterscape but in a bathtub. The movement is also great: the fact that the mermaid's body creates a zigzag (her body broken in three lines) adds to the feeling that she is stuck and doesn't have space in the bathtub. The bathtub is also not straight, adding interest for the viewer, and the lines for the wood on the walls give a great perspective. The colors fit perfectly with the theme and the greens and reds are very well chosen. I also like the work with the light. The fallen candles add to the mood of... "brokenness"? and I like the reflections on her face and scales. Very well done e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="357" title="Heart"/>

Bravo! I first noticed this mermaids face first. How sad she is feeling. Maybe it is because she is in a tub. And not even her water is high enough, it seems, so she can breath well, as yet she has not transformed into humane form.
I love the color contrast that you used for the bathroom, it has the gloomy effect that matches how she feels. I do like the originality of adding the candles to the room, bright lights are not in a mermaids living conditions normally.
Your techniques is detailed for her situation. This is easy on the eyes and wonderfully imaginative. I like it very much. Keep being creative & I shall be watching. Many Blessings

Lost in the abyss of the mind of the mermaid
She longs to wait waters so she can swim a parade

The candles light up the very crevices of the darkness she engulfs herself in
No matter what she still remembers the joy of the water she used to be in

He tail can no longer change or metamorphose its shape to human
Her face is also starting to become malnourished, just then the cupid

Walks through the seamlessly invisible thin air to see her pain and agony
Her love had been fighting for her ever since this dwindling tragedy

Dark fantasy concepts are my #1 art weakness.
It's all I draw, actually.

The only thing that bothers me that I occasionally see in mermaid art is that it almost looks like she has legs? (It looks like the tail is bent too sharply so it looks like she has knees and calfs. But it depends on what perspective you're drawing the tail at that I may be unable to discern.)

Nevertheless, the muted sepia tones give a romantic/melancholy feeling, and the emotion on the mermaid's face is (excuse me for being cliche) hauntingly beautiful.
My personal interpretation is that someone fell in love/became so attached to this mermaid that they wanted to keep her safe, therefore keeping her in a bathtub.

But I can also see how this could be a metaphor for being stuck in a rut or a mental block being represented as a physical block. Or even how the people that care for you the most may do something for you in which they think is in your best interest when in reality it is stunting your happiness.
Anyway, beautiful piece.

This is an absolutely brilliant piece, the DD was well deserved. I love everything about it. For starters it's a smashing idea for a painting. I think it compares to our lives in the sense that sometimes, no matter how bad we want to live up to our full potential, we simply get stuck. Something or someone will always be trying to stop us or bring us down. The cartoonish look suites it well because most cartoons are generally happy so it adds a sense of irony to the idea of it. (Or at least the idea that's running through my head.) Very nice color choice as well. They're dark and morbid and really add to the feel of the picture. And to top it all off, she has the most distraught facial expression. Well done, keep the creativity coming. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

I was instantly memorised by this masterpiece when I saw it come up on daily deviations. I really love the forlorn expression on the mermaid's face, as if she currently contemplating her life at the moment or currently tired of it (I say tired because her hair is sprawled out and messy from maybe running from something? or swimming in this case >.<. I get a sense of lukewarm feelings here probably because she is in the the bathtub by herself whilst surrounded by the warm glows of the candles, like she's trying to enjoy her own company but she can't because whatever is bothering her is taking time away from her to relax. You did an excellent job of how the light reflects everywhere from the candles, especially on the mermaid's face, hair and hands and how the light itself emits from the candle. And well done on catching the right tones for the water, which is quite difficult to do. Overall, a truly beautiful but bittersweet piece. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l… " width="26" height="17" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="276" title="Love"/>
