Developed by Meridian Steelworks in the early 2030s as a compromise between the hardsuit-adapted M2HB-HCR (Hardsuit Combat Refit) Browning and the Barrett M107-OSISP(Over-Size Integrated Sensor Package), the Special Purpose Armor-Defeating Rifle, .50 caliber (SPADR-50) made for quite the favorable impression with the SKINK hardsuit-equipped units: it was lighter and pointed much more naturally than the M2HB-HCR, while its 30 round magazine, electronic fire control group and superior sensor suite made the M107-OSISP pale by comparison.

While its ergonomics might appear counterintuitive to the average viewer, most hardsuits forego conventional human anatomy for one reason or another, with the SKINK in particular using a proprietary mounting system on its manipulator's palm for additional stability and data-transfer capabilities. The magazine's long profile also offers a better grip if required, but the SKINK's mitten-type manipulators can wrap around its mag well more than adequately enough. The larger controls are suitable for operation with its main manipulators, but the tentacle-type secondary manipulators can also operate them if required - which is why its charging handle doesn't garner nearly as much complaint as one might assume.

The features of the base package include a 12 o'clock smart rail mounted behind the sensor suite, a SKINK-compatible mount, a 6 o'clock mounting point for various secondary weapons and a heavy barrel. This package is also referred to as the "drone" configuration as it is the cheapest setup offered by Meridian Steelworks and is also recommended if the client needs a no-frills, solid weapon system.

As legged automated UGVs became relatively popular for long-range operations in the next decade, it's often thought Meridian was involved in under the table deals and that the government was also involved. This was due to proxy wars still taking place in Central Africa and Eurasia. Both parties simply answer this question with "no comments".
