Copy pasting from my (oudated) blogspot [link]This was our first BFA project in Fall 2010. Our assignment was given by alumni working at ILM. Boardtrack racing was an old sport that was eventually banned in the 1930s. Our assignment was to design 3 characters, story moments, and a prop. My main character is a former racer turned mechanic with a wooden leg. He has become bitter from being unable to race anymore and slowly distanced himself away from his friends and girlfriend.
I revised it so many times for my portfolio/BFA gallery and then made prints to sell at Otakon. Even tho I made super limited prints, it sold out

I love how at first glance the piece suggests a story, and then on reading the description I find out you really did come up with one. I hope things ended happily for the former racer and his girlfriend.

I love the impact of the illustration! Colors are great, there's a bit of a "Disney feeling" on it, but it's very still very personal and unique. And reading your comment I see there is a good background to this picture. WOW!

The sport was only banned because it cost a lot to maintain the racetracks. Wood and weather never go well together, and the Depression didn't help, either...
