I haven't given much thought.
Either play as normal chess... or... play like those board games like Monopoly (land on a square and get bonuses or penalties or nothing)

Perhaps a mix of Snakes and Ladders x Ludo
Scrabble x Trivia Pursuit

And other combinations.
I didn't play a lot of board games when I was young.
