I can't remember much of the film, but this reminds me of a scene in The Secret Garden (the one that came out in the early nineties), where a mother abandons a child, and the way the child responds always really haunted me. I'd forgotten about it until recently when I heard a child crying at work and it just came rushing back to me. This photo gives me that exact same mixture of sympathy and horror, it really is a beautiful image.
