You grab the thumbnail code listed in the Detail area over on the right of the deviation and just paste it where you want it. Thumbnails all show up in the profile descriptions, sadly not so for normal comments unless you have core. ย Hope that helps!

Yes, it will! I totally found that out myself via experimenting, but it only seems to apply to your profile page; posting them elsewhere just shows up as the thumbnail code.
