Description The Forward
As many of you know at this point, I've been dabbling in pixel art because of an avi site that's currently in Alpha called ManaHaven.

I've been checking out their new stuff since they recently made a massive upload that included supposedly "hundreds" of new items which I've been rather impressed with: Mantles, Kilts, Jewelery, Vests, Shirts, Stockings, Shoes, Gloves, Leg-Guards, Belts, there was even a new sword design that made me literally

However, the one pieve that really caught my attention was a new staff they released. I spent a long time looking at it because there was just something about it that I couldn't quite make out at first, some inspiration waiting to be discovered. Then suddenly it hit me. From that unique design I realized how it was possible to make an axe. I was rather excited as there currently weren't any axes to be seen so far, so the idea to really branch out onto new ground was just too tempting to pass up.

Right Column (TOP):
Axe - This is the most basic of the basics. After seeing how it could be done, I flipped the angle all around and worked out the base design for the axe. This came out- with a lot of the small details -as seeming much more intricate than it actually is, which I'm rather proud of. From this attempt I branched off and got very creative along the way, but everything starts somewhere.

Battleaxe - Now that we had the base design, we could outfit this thing to seem much more combat oriented. I made the shaft a bit fancier with nothing but the addition of an extra color that's almost an ivory- which works well for bone, but we'll cover that later -and then I broadened the head and gave it a new shape. I added in- if you look closely -some light patterns in the head which I had hoped would somewhat resemble some old Celtic engravings to tie the whole look together.

Berserker Axe - Okay, here's where that ivory color came into play again. I gave a much longer edge here and then notched it out a bit before trying a new color and finding that the "bone edge" look was very appealing. After that a roughed up the shaft a bit- yes, it's not quite the same as the others -and gave it a red color which almost came out like red, cloth wrap, at least to me. Then I got a little more brutal with the design- or "heavy metal" as one observer commented -and tried out some spatter effect which I think suited the whole thing nicely ^_^

Crescent - Another long bladed axe, to which I added in a rather stylish hook to the top just for aesthetic value really- even if it may look intimidating, it would never be practical. To follow up the ornate vibe of it, I fancied up the shaft with mixed blues and some gold. I think the whole thing came out looking great.

Dane Axe - ~Marak-Pendragon commented that one of my designs resembled a "Dane Axe". Intrigued by this, I looked up some images and from those I made a proper one- it's a very sleek and intimidating design. The shaft's colors were inspired by the Danish flag to sort of wrap it all up. I actually quite pleased with the results.

Glaive - Okay so it's not exactly a glaive, but it does resemble the general idea of it. Long blade, exaggerated curve, it's a pretty fierce piece of weaponry to say the least. The shaft colors seem a bit paler than neutral, but it isn't too bad, I don't think. More variety to these designs as they go along to be sure that nothing just seems like a recoloring or slight mod to an older one.

Left Column (Top)
Halberd - So I wanted to take a shot at the Halberd, this one features a smaller head with a large spike topping it for spearing. Not exactly featuring the length of a pole-axe, but meant for reach and often standard for guardsmen. I added the "Elven green" color scheme to it and I think it works nicely.

KK Axe - Named after ~KK6665Player who requested it or more "challenged" me with the task of making an axe while she went afk for about a two minute span. She selected the colors, I gave it the design and everything. I don't think that the speed I made this one in shows with how well it turned out XD~!

Maul - Size matters and here we have the maul. It features a big, blunt, broad blade meant to cleaving through in one powerful swing. Probably better for felling trees and chopping wood mostly, this one clearly has been modified a bit for combat, though it would be rather slow and clumsy still. Dark space was filled with some etching designs.

Murder - Named for the original character it was made for, this is a bit of a gift to ~KK6665Player and actually one of the first axes I ever made. It features a very stylized blade and spikes near the top of the shaft. The shaft itself is unlike any of the other axes I've made so far and really that brings out more of the unique aspect of this particular piece. The color scheme is meant to match its wielder. Anyone familiar with KK's work likely knows exactly who this is for

Teeth - Finally we have the last axe I've created to this point. Simply named "Teeth" for obvious reasons, I intended to make a weapon that was suitable for carving through armor and so I came up with this design. It's rather intimidating, but also a bit decorative with it's color scheme and all.

Closing
Anyway, there you have my FIRST submission of pixel axes. I hope to have just as many as I do swords at some point, but for now we have a great start

For whatever reason this brings to mind the fact there's this giant tree limb branch..cutter thing in our shed that I always wonder what would happen if it fell on me because it wiggles every time I pull stuff from behind it and........yeah *shrugs* Random I know. Anyway there are some pretty neat looking weapons up there especially where you tweak them to look like.....well whatever you want them to I suppose XD I think the Murder one does indeed look cool along wiiith like all of them that works lol. Sickness does amazing things for my enthusiasm to follow through there |D Some of those look like they would do plentiful violence. Although I'm sure they all would.

Yeah, that's one common fear there, I suppose XD

Yeah, I like being able to really play with the looks. The site has a habit in alpha to just recolor old designs, so I really like coming up with all new ones and pull inspiration from some outside sources even
