Description So to follow up the old school swords I submitted not to long ago, I wanted to try out some axe designs in my old style as well.  I used to do almost as many of them as I had swords, but lately I haven't had much chance.  Since I do most things at a slanted angle they don't come out looking quite right to me   These look pretty good, if really simple.  And with that, lemme introduce you to the family...

(From top left to right)
Greataxe - Where axes are concerned, size matters and nothing will stop a foe dead in their tracks faster than seeing this thing on the battlefield.  With an astonishing amount of reach and an incredibly heavy weight behind it, this weapon is garunteed to flatten anything that it impacts.  I really wanted a simple, basic design as a kick-off point and decided that a double-battle axe was the way to go, small details in the blade and shaft seem to work well for the overall look.

Fel Rend - With its gnarled shaft, jagged blade crusted over with blood, this savage weapon strikes terror into the hearts of those that face it.  Crudely made and yet terribly effective, the basics of this weapon are quite simple to master.  One side is heavy and sharp and when put to use, it makes your enemies not an immediately problem anymore.  I was experimenting with new axe shapes and I wanted to see if I could do the blood flecked look any justice...not really, but it looks alright in the end.  That shaft though, I'm not sure about it, still

Crushing Battleaxe - Not quite as large as the greataxe, but meant for a much greater degree of force behind its blows to shatter bone while cleaving flesh.  It's a great weapon for facing foes in various forms of armor.  This was actually the first in the set that I made, I wanted to see how minimalistic I could go and still like the final design.  This came out looking pretty well.

Battleaxe - More compact than others in its class, this axe is great for being used in both hands or to accompany a shield.  An excellent balance of power and mobility while on the battlefield.  I wanted to try a shorter axe while not just making it a hatchet or cleaver, I was also practicing different blade shapes to see what I could come out with.

Crescent Axe - Combining length with a hook, this weapon offers a good balance of offense and defense for those wielding it.  The curved blade is best suited for meeting flesh than armor, but with its weight, it will still deal substantial damage at a safe distance.  Originally, this was going to be a poleaxe, but I couldn't get the spiked top to look quite right, so I settled for a more traditional design.

Red Stone Axe - Like all red stone weapons, this axe carries not only a fierce blade meant for rending, but is extremely toxic to most living things.  The wounds inflicted take a greater deal of effort to prevent massive blood loss and when paired with the red stone poison, few wounded by this weapon will survive to the next battle.  I wanted to make something intimidating and practice some blade coloring to highlight sharp edges, also break from the traditional color scheme.

Crystal Halberd - This weapon is as deadly as it is beautiful.  The crafting of fine crystal weapons is both a secret and masterful art.  Possessing a blade that will never dull and a weapon that is almost subject to no loss of quality over time and use, it's hard to find anything armament more reliable for a brave warrior.  If I made the red stone axe, I had to have something like a counterpart to it.  Again, I was trying out different colors and trying to make the things look more interesting with new shapes and combinations.  YES, I'm aware this doesn't look much like a Halberd, but I wanted a different sounding name

(Bottom left to right)
Heartbreaker - While pretty, this is no less a lethal device meant for warfare.  The Heartbreaker is an odd weapon to say the least, but not one without history.  It's often the choice for warriors seeking vengeance for the loss of a lover.  Much like the Thorny Heart, this weapon is best for the hands of someone with a degree of magical finesse to unlock its true potential.  I couldn't have a set without another heart weapon

Heavenly Destroyer - Legendary as a weapon from the empyrean kingdoms of the high heavens, this weapon stands as a staple for the forces of good.  It's wing shaped blades are made of an unknown material that seems significantly effective against demons and other evil spirits.  I was asked to do a wing bladed axe and took some time trying out different colors and shapes to make it look flashy, but effective.

Elite Protector - An ancient weapon once a standard for a royal guard in a kingdom long since lost in the annals of history, this axe is most notable for it's remarkable durable and old crating style as well as being a weapon of astonishing size.  It has seem battle over many centuries and has not lost its keen edge in all that time, a true testament to time and war.  I wanted to really go for some interesting details with this one and kept building on it before stepping back and liking the turnout.  I hope that I can make more with this sort of creativity in mind.

Berserk Axe - This terrifying weapon is reputed to be in possession of a powerful, demonic spirit that inhabits the body of its wielder on the battlefield and putting them into a bloodthirsty rage.  Its hollows and cooks seem deliberately designed to inflict crippling amounts of pain, rending its victims helpless during battle.  I wanted a more stylized looking blade for a more classic fantasy feel and I also wanted another single-blade axe.

Rustic Axe - Another axe from an age long forgotten, the Rustic Axe holds up to the age old saying, "they don't make them like they used to".  Compose of mostly bronze, this weapon is surprisingly well preserved and still quite effective in battle despite its great age.  Its design would almost suggest that it might have been a weapon standard for an order of holy knights.  I wanted to try my hand at an axe with a top piece that didn't look terrible and this ended up branching out from there.

The Executioner - Of unknown origin, this fear inducing weapon seems to be made from obsidian and a strange metal that can cleave through steel like a hot knife through butter.  The smell of blood wafts off of it, almost intoxicating, and its in possession of a dark, foreboding aura that can't be explain.  Its a weapon that demands use and frequent use at that, lopping off heads and cleaving off limbs with frightening glee.  This one was a request and I couldn't say no
