Revisiting FTL travel for my webcomic.
The idea that I had was that instead of wormholes or quantum tunneling, the ship would travel backwards in time as it is traveling forwards in space, so that the time which passes outside matches the time dilation inside of the ship. Since this system requires a complete comprehension of everything being sent down to it's deepest personal levels, the task is too delicate to be left to an AI or a team of humans, and so massive, cyborg brains built to function in microgravity will do the work instead, comprehending each human spirit totally by using a subjectivity backdoor in each (an outlet with a wire made out of the only content which allows the inner to be an expression of the outer).
In many people, of course, having an inhuman intelligence comprehend everything about them in an instant (the cyborg brain has to be visualizing everything in the craft during the voyage, or pieces will be missing or mutated by the end) is simply too horrific, which often causes "Subjectivity Sickness" during the voyage, which may manifest as seizures, panic attacks, psychosis, a comatose state during the voyage, or even momentary braindeath in those for whom the Subjectivity Sickness is too intense to handle.
