Beautiful work, really eye-catching at the first glance. I have no experience using fractal design software like Apophysis and the like but I’m interested to write a critique on the general artistic values of this. Let’s begin. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>
The first time I looked at this I immediately sensed a powerful illusion of depth. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think each spiral width is decreasing exponentially and thus creating an extreme transition from the largest to the smallest. The curly strokes on the ‘flower petals’ also remind me of music visualizer back of the good old Windows Media Player (e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/>) which is good actually, because my point is it added a sense of movement, not just depth, which is a good score in dynamic value. I love it how the subtle pink lines are moving and almost vanishing towards the deep blue center. Plus the way you positioned the flower more on the left instead of the center image area makes the view point more interesting.
But I think even with those great points this piece still looks somewhat static, because the flower’s angle is only slightly tilt to the right, just a little more above 90 degress, and so with the shape, it’s seems generally like a square repeated with same lines, same pattern, more or less same colors.
About the colors and patterns, at first sight they’re maybe interesting but after you looked at them for more time it gets boring easily despite the unique combination and stunning design. There’s barely any variation. Although maybe there are some limitations with the fractal software, I’ve seen other fractal arts including yours and it seems possible to somehow create elements that won’t seem monotonously repetitive.
Also in my opinion it might be better if the view point was not so directly looking into the flower like this because then it’s another static 90 degree angle, what if the camera just slightly ‘looks up’ so the view point would also look ‘exponential’ if you know what I mean. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c… " width="18" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="108" title="Confused"/>
But all in all this is a wonderful art with awesome vision of depth, only perhaps need to work more on color variation and especially increasing the overall dynamic.
