Thanks. What's funny is that I discovered an already well-known technique trying to get this shot. I missed so many shots of the lightning by trying to guess when it was coming. Then I figured out to leave the shutter open with the lights out until the lightning strike. After that is when I read about the technique online. I guess experience IS the best teacher.

Yes indeed, I know the technique - I've used it, somewhat successfully to capture fireworks many years ago. Bit of a pain in the ass as to do it 100% properly - especially with fireworks as you can tell when the next ones are going to burst and ideally you put a piece of card over the lens in between bursts ... but worth it when you get that great shot. You did good
