Description The Ford M151 "Mutt" was the succor to the iconic U.S WW2 Willys jeep and was produced from 1959 through 1982. This quarter-ton 4x4 was highly usefully and enjoyed a long time in service(and for good reason!). The mutt severed thro Vietnam and had many upgrades along the way and was ultimately replaced by the humvee. The mutt was used by 15 different NATO countries and is currently used by over 100 countries worldwide. All tho it did suffer from roll over issues, it had great speed, mobility, was light weight and was very durable. Overall, a pretty incredible military vehicle.

This is a 1/35 Tamiya ford mutt and while this kit has been reissued a few times (with different upgrades) the kit I got was the basic vintage kit. I won this kit in a raffle at a local model con and it sells for around $10.us. Painted with enamel paint and weathered with art acrylics and pastels. Stowage/gear was from the bits box. Overall I like this kit alot even tho its one of my smallest builds. I would highly recommend this kit or its variants to any beginner or excerpt alike. For such a cheap price alot of fun can be had with this jeep.
Anyways I am planning up a diorama and base for this thing and will hopefully finish that up in the next few days.

When I saw this picture, I remembered that I've builded the 1/35 M151 from Academy Minicraft.
But that was more than 10 years ago and the model was discarded.

The Academy Minicraft M151 kit came with a trailer, a mortar and four soldiers (the driver and the mortar crew).

yea this was the vintage tamyia release and was pretty bare bones on extras. it did come with a driver figurine but i hoarded him away for future projects.

Very dangerous but fun. Maybe the ones that sit lower with the wide wheel base might be safer?

enc86 In reply to hankypanky68 [2013-05-16 21:31:03 +0000 UTC]

hummm most likely. up here there isn't much to do and everybody is cooped up all winter. as soon as its mud season a lot of people get out and push the limits a bit too much.

yea drinking and driving is like an unofficial Vermont sport(not that i am endorsing that kind of behavior) most of the time the rolled jeeps are piloted by very good old boys XD

roll-over issues... would those include VC mortar rounds landing close by? Or recoil from firing a TOW missile?
(Thinking of CoD: Black Ops)

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

enc86 In reply to WereOwl-In-Wisconsin [2013-05-16 10:26:28 +0000 UTC]

XD

i would assume it comes from hulling too fast around corners. i have seen my share of civilian jeeps roll over....anyways because of liability issues the army didn't sell this one much to civilians, which is a shame cause jeeps are alot of fun.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

WereOwl-In-Wisconsin In reply to enc86 [2013-05-16 22:37:19 +0000 UTC]

So... if a car is prone to roll-over, it's not safe for the civilian market.

If it's a gigantic monster (Humvee) that consumes fuel at an obscenely fast rate, it's just fine?

Whoever sells these cars has weird priorities, I think.
