Dominic knew the tale all to well, during the fall of 2017 the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant had a massive meltdown covering most of new England and northeastern Canada with heavy radiation, the aftermath made most of that area a wasteland. The US government and help from governments around the world tried to evacuate the area and cordon it off. with their joint effort the "neutral zone" was established. Rumors soon circulated of strange creatures and some even speculated that world governments were using this "zone" as a black site for scientific experiments. it was those strange tales and rumors of scientific discovery, adventure and fortune that brought Dominic to the wretched place. his team was to sneak in and report on anything they might find. it was soon after he entered Vermont that he found something he qualified as strange.After a quick scan he quickly got on the radio to the rest of his team"I think I might of found something..."
this is a quick little 1/35 diorama heavily inspired by the game series "S.t.a.l.k.e.r." most of the elements are pretty random, this is what went into this one: the jeep is a Tamiya model kit, the figure is a modded zvezda figurine ,the base is a flat rock i found, ground work is a real dirt/pastel mixture, road is made of plaster of pairs, green ooze is sealant caulking, sign and newspaper are scaled down images from the net, random bits and bobs and the claw is a real spur from one of my roosters. all in all i am happy with how this one came out and i leaned a few new things in the process. pretty good for two days worth of work and i am sure this is not the last time i do a "zone" scene.

This just in, Lord Cluckinator has just signed the death warrants of the of all of the above, including this news station by, and I quote "A spectacular display of nuclear fireworks."

Dominic sat on his couch, horrified, but stood, with as much courage as he could muster, shouted at the ceiling. "Humanity shall stop you evil lord Cluckinator!" And so began his paroles adventure, in defeating the evil poultry overlords of humanity.

how do you attach the model onto the the diorama base? and are the stowage glued or cemented as well?

on this one, i had to use a could of drops of super glue on the wheels. it held the the jeep really good. some people will put a bolt in the base and a hole in their model and use a nut to attache them.(that works better on tanks and bigger models)
the stowage is indeed glued onto the model. i tend to paint the stowage individuality then attach them to the model with superglue. seems to hold quite good too as i sent this mutt throu the mail the other day and the person receiving it said it was intact(stowage and all) when they got it.

Nice! I will try that I was using poly cement for the stowage and it was ruining the paint. So this was sold? Do you sell your other models?

yea super glue works pretty good. it will still ruin paint but if you place a small amount on the tank/stowage where it will not show, no one will ever know. allso dont use to much as the fumes can cover plastic in a white film.
no i did not sell it, someone really liked it and it was just taking up space so i sent it out.

Superb work! I can definitely see some Super-Mega-Ultra Chickens in the near future, though it may take them a while to reach Chicago. There are so many excellent aspects of this piece that have surely been mentioned to you already, so I will simply say that this is a truly fantastic piece not only of model-work, but also creative use of imagery and multimedia storytelling.
On another note, my first major model-making project involved a Mutt utility vehicle very much like this one (though I think mine was an Academy rather than Tamiya). It was a very fun project, and I learned a lot about weathering techniques and paint layering by doing it. The end product looked great for my skill level, but unfortunately I never fully finished it, and model-making itself turned out to be too expensive a hobby for me to continue. It truly is exciting to see it done right!

thank you very much. this one was alot of fun to think up and accomplish. really wanted to be able to tell a proper story with just it. going into it i really wanted something small, but BIG atmosphere. i haven't built a diorama since this one but i have a few ideas and stuff in my stash too wild. just it takes a ton of time and determination , hopefully ill work up that ambition soon.
ahh cool, these small models can be really great and an awesome bang for your buck. i got this mutt free and the whole diorama probably cost me around $10.
but yea scale modeling can get pricy, especially if you really get into it. sometimes just the paint alone can be a big wallet buster. right now i am starting to just do kitbashes, witch can allso be a very good and cheap rout. plus its not a "kit" anymore, its what ever you want it to be, just need time.

I would definitely be interested in seeing what else you can accomplish with mini-dioramas like this one, especially if you do a post-apocalyptic tank set in the same universe, as you mentioned. In case you're looking for inspiration, I find mixing the roles of vehicles or settings around provides a really interesting and in some ways more believable post-apocalyptic vibe.
For instance, switching military and civilian functions is often used in one direction (e.g. city buses converted into battle-fortresses, farm tractors armed with cannons, etc), but rarely in media do you see military vehicles repurposed for more benevolent uses (even though tanks would make excellent improvised farm machinery). Role-mixing really shows that people are struggling to do the best with what they have. One of the best examples of this sort of thing would be the artwork in Graham Oakley's "Henry's Quest" (link) , which had phenomenal post-apocalyptic artwork (albeit a simplistic story, as it was a children's book). Definitely inspired me, and worth checking out, especially if you've got kids to read it with.

i have a few things stocked up. this one was a really cheap one(came out pretty good too) but for my next one in this kinda setting i want to go ALL out(i have a few projects i need to do before it) right now i have a type 90 MBT(with 2 sets of photo etched) a ruined building, a cool base board, assortment of figurines. still need some resin aftermarket and other random junk. i am slowly gearing up for it but when i do it, it will most likly take me well over a month to complete.
very very cool idea and great link. thats definitely some inspired work and a really cool idea. i might attempt something like that at some point. think i might have to build up my skills a bit more before i attempt it.
thats kinda the thing, i have tons of ideas, but some i wait on, cause my skills just cant do them justice.

Sheer brilliance! I love how each angle you look at this picture adds a little more to the "story." I also like the slightly "retro-futuristic" feel. (I just can't get enough of that sort of thing for some reason.

thanks buddy, this one really served as testing ground for some random and new techniques for me. the rock base,road,rust, ect were all things i had wanted to try and jammed into one project. great learning experience.
