Description Luke 7:18-28
Jesus and John the Baptist

18. John's disciples told him about all these things. Calling two of them,
19. he sent them to the Lord to ask, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?"
20. When the men came to Jesus, they said, "John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, 'Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?' "
21. At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind.
22. So he replied to the messengers, "Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.
23. Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me."
24. After John's messengers left, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: "What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind?
25. If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces.
26. But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
27. This is the one about whom it is written: " 'I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.'
28. I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."

I really enjoy your artwork, Eikonik....Have you illustrated some of Jesus's parables and teachings? The prodigal Son is good example of God's quest to reconcile man to himself. No matter how bad we've fallen from God, He still watches and searches dillenginely for us.

There are symbols of the robe, the ring, and the sandals that the father orders be brought to the Prodigal son, to clean him up and restore him back to the family, and have a feast.

The robe was a symbol of righteousness, and the ring is of salvation. The kings of old had a signet ring that they used to seal documents and proclamations, dating back to the Persians, and and of David and Solomon's time. The sandals are a sign of peace, as is in the part of the "whole armor of God" description in Ephesians 6.

If you need an example of a story of human struggle, look no further than the Bible. From the very beginning, when Adam and Eve fell from God's grace in Genesis 3, man has been seperated from God (he death God spoke of in why Adam and Eve should not eat from the Tree of Knowledge. Satan, the enemy of God and of Man, tempted the 1st couple into eating which was prohibited of them, cursing them to eternal seperation and death.

Christ's struggle in the garden of Gethsetheme (the name Gethsetheme means "wine press" and was on the mt of olives. Gethesetheme was a favorite resting area for Jesus and his disciples, for food, drink, and some discipling lessons. I mean, he sweated "great drops of blood." He decided to 'not my will, but Your will be done."

Add in your book, Shaolin, about Christ's sacrifice on the Cross. That is how we can overcome all of the human struggle. Not riches, not good works, not self-righteous living (see the Pharisees of Jesus's day). Only the blood of Christ wll take away the sins of the world.

The Jews have Feast days, seven in all. Yom Kippur is the Feast of Atonement. There is the Feast of Trumpets, which will happen soon with the rapture and the 2nd coming of Christ. All the other 6 Feast days have been fulfilled by Christ, as was foretold in the words of the prophets.

Every time I see your art I tell myself I need to stop drawing comic characters and start actually making things to help my Sunday School students. Thank you for sharing these with us. It's really nice to see your interpretations of these scriptures. And thank you for siting the actual passage in detail.

Great question.

The point of view is from the disciples of John that came to Jesus with John's question. Jesus answered them by performing miracles of healing and such. Jesus is the one on the left showing the outcome of those miracles while telling them that the blind see, the deaf hear, the lame walk, etc.

Hope this makes sense. Thanks for your inquiry!
