Description
No love triangle would be complete without a catalyst. And when it came to the violence that erupted between Hikaru and Kaoru Shibara, May Hawthorne was the spark that set it all off. An exchange-student that eventually stayed with the Shibara clan, using them as a host family, youthful urges quickly ensured that her and Kaoru Shibara fell in love. Unfortunately things didn't work out, and a somewhat messy break-up occurred when May became convinced Kaoru was becoming dangerously obsessed with his personal studies at her expense.

Of course, things being the way they were, she eventually ended up having a fling with the other brother, Hikaru. While at the time Kaoru would never have let his jealousy show, it had an effect on him, pushing him further into isolation and making him a little more careless in trying to reach a conclusion to his studies. He missed signs he otherwise wouldn't have, and fell directly into the hands of those who were working to corrupt the Shibara family.

During the night of blood, Kaoru's insane rampage that left a majority of the Shibara clan dead and their estate burning, he took May under his own 'care'. Being the sole receiver of Kaoru's insane bouts of sadism and violence for the better part of a year, May broke, to put it lightly. While she eventually escaped the physical torment, her own mind was now just as shattered as his, and she found no peace no matter where she went, even to Hikaru.

Eventually she got some visceral revenge on her former tormentor, though she gained no satisfaction from it, and the two slowly began to reach an understanding. Now with an adopted daughter to focus their care on in a post-apocalyptic world around them, May and Kaoru do their best to find some stability between themselves.
