Description Credit goes out to my mother for helping me get this shot. I drove over to her house in hopes of getting a black widow, and instead discovered this little spider.
She held the fluorescent light while I tried to focus and keep her (the spider! ) from running away.

These are neat spiders. I kept one as a pet once.

I had tarantulas as pets once. I agree, spiders are fascinating creatures.

While trying to identify my little friend, I learned that Metaltella simoni had been introduced to Florida from South America and is gradually spreading. (It is now established as far north as North Carolina and as far west as California.)

She had a voracious appetite when she was young, but like most true spiders, they don't live very long. Mine died of old age last fall.
