While looking afar on that day I felt like being deprived of all colours, in fact on gloomy winter days the whole world appears to be in black and white. A strange feeling for a photographer who sees the world in colours and only deliberately chooses to use a black and white film or decides to convert their picture into monochrome tones later. This is a view towards the highest mountain of Germany, Zugspitze.

I personally cherish such times. It's often accompanied by an eerie quiet, not necessarily silence; and the air itself though vivid turns to a medium with a consistency of its own. It's like a gradual dulling of the senses, though they're clearly not impaired.
It's funny how this has been written on many times, so I guess it has some consistency in terms of human experience.
Ah: and light! I was forgetting light, because it seems it is at the same time dampened and bright. Tires your eyes very fast and makes you almost avoid looking afar.
