I absolutely love symbolic work, and this is definitely an impressive piece. It goes beyond showing us something, to the realm of expressing and conveying a particular feeling or emotion.
Kill me softly...an interesting title for this piece. When I first saw it, the initial symbolism I interpreted was "pain." The red around her eyes and the string visibly cutting into her skin, not too deep but deep enough to be uncomfortable, made me think of pain. Her hardened expression and the look over her shoulder also give the impression that she doesn't want any help. Almost as if she was about to utter "leave me alone," "I'm fine," but the words never make it past her lips. She is suffering, but she has built up walls so that she may suffer alone.
Anxiety is like a loose string that gradually wraps itself around, tightening by small, unnoticeable degrees till it's too late and the strings cause you to bleed. She is pale and exhausted. The exhaustion shows in her eyes and in the untamed state of her hair, and her bare skin shows her vulnerabilities are naked to the world. But by the fire in her eyes, you can tell she is still fighting against her inner demons. Her loved ones reach out but she insists she is fine, that she can handle this pain alone.
The one who is killing her softly....is none other than herself.
The feeling expressed in this piece is riveting. You've portrayed a human emotion we can all relate to quite well, a human emotion so raw and painful that this photography caused me to feel something - and that's the whole point of art, is it not?

The combination of the title and the artwork itself, the expression of the subject, get very complicated.
What is that look? It looks almost sarcastic, maybe a little caustic, maybe a little mocking... but there does some to be an underlying painfulness.

I like this. I saw someone wondering if they perceive the expression as pain or enjoyment. It's funny: I see incredulity, maybe a little wickedness.

Not sure if that look says 'pain' or 'enjoyment'
