In a way, I can see why some would raise a skeptical eyebrow, because it's just the initial sketch, right to the finished rendering. That's sort of the point. Nothing magical but starting with a relatively simple sketch, and painting from there. But I'll soon upload some work with more intermediate stages in the process.

I can't tell you how tempting it was at times to stop midway and say, "the audience'll get it, it's just a couple studies, no biggie, stop now." But then I just wasn't satisfied, and I really wanted to push my understanding of subtleties. I don't regret it for a moment. Plus, my followers deserve the extra effort. : D

thanks! At first, I was digging away at it pretty loosely, but it became more and more fun and challenging to keep layering until it started to really fill out and look more like an oil painting. Not intentional at first, but now I think I've stumbled upon a method I want to stick with.

And that whinny-ing jet black looks great, it's rare I see people draw those curved lips while they whinny. Love it~.

I can imagine, I think highlights on chestnuts are hardest to adjust so the colours don't look off.
And yes, velvety horse noses are amazing. I regularily drive to a nearby pasture to squeeze and poke any nose that comes to get a treat. It's paradise. Especially if there is a foal~. :'D
Maybe google if there is some kinda stable or horse fair thingy nearby? Depends on where you live tho. *has plenty of horsie access in germany*

There's def horses around where I live, but they're pastured behind the houses or barns, so I can't visit. D: The layouts in my neck of the woods usually has it like this, and it's quite different than what you're probably used to in Germany.
