I feel we never got to see how far aeronautical engineers could go with propeller-powered designs due to the advent of the jet engine.

This is a Japanese torpedo bomber specifically designed to approach and survive contact with American naval forces, due to hard-won combat experience. All the frontal surfaces are heavily armoured, including the leading edge of the wing. Cockpit canopy is specially angled to help deflect incoming fire. The aircraft uses a delta wing design (I will do a top view later) and has a central stabilizer bisecting the rear of the delta wing.

Armament is 4x20mm medium velocity cannon in the nose, an automatically-controlled turret in the rear containing 4x13 mm machine guns, and a weapons bay that can carry a 24 in. Long Lance torpedo, or several different bomb loads.

Inboard wing loading can carry bombs or external drop tanks.

Engines are 2x2,100 hp in-line using 4-bladed contra-rotating propellers. (pretty much all my alternate-history propeller designs will use CRPs)

Speed is hampered by the bulk of the aircraft and armour, but still manages a respectable 370 mph (595 km/h). The engines are thirsty at full power, and combat radius is 900 km without drop tanks, including 10-minute on-target loiter, 1,450 with drop tanks.

Extra vertical stabilizers are near the wing edge.

Aircraft is designed to be land based.
