Description
This is the thumbnail/poster for my new science fiction short film "Gravity Assist ". The spaceship approaches a ringed ice planet to perform a "gravity assist" or slingshot maneuver. This will further increase the ship's velocity towards its new home.

The short film links various images I made earlier, each featuring the same rotating spaceship. This project served as a learning experience for me as an enthusiastic hobbyist. #Blender was used for modeling and animation, while Davinci Resolve handled the editing, color correction, and sound design.

The primary concept behind this design is to create a space station almost ready for launch. The habitat modules take inspiration from inflatable designs proposed by Bigelow Aerospace and Sierra Space, allowing them to be folded and conveniently fit into SpaceX's Starship payload bay at 8x8m dimensions. Even the botanical domes could be folded into pieces of similar size. Approximately 120 launches would be necessary to deploy the entire structure into orbit. This idea may soon become a reality with advancements in reusable launch platforms. The rotating dome structure has a diameter of 90 meters, requiring a rotational velocity of 3 rpm. This aligns with the concept by Wernher von Braun and Willy Ley during the 1950s. For artistic reasons, it is set to 1.5 rpm for this work.
