This is somewhat sloppy Midjourney image inspired by the story "The Marlyweck Cemetary" by Jean Ray.
Peaffy is a mystery hunter and he permits me to enjoy his extraordinary discoveries. It was thanks to him that I became acquainted with Goodman Rain, or the wandering umbrella, an immense “paraverse” of green cotton, which walked alone, with no one to hold it, across the empty grounds of Putney Commons.
“If, inadvertently or through rare temerity, we took shelter under it, we would disappear forever into the ground,” said Peaffy.
One evening when I followed the lonely umbrella, a poor woman asked for alms.
“Here is a half crown,” I said, “but go see who is beneath that umbrella and come tell me.”
She obeyed: I saw a little water and sand jet up from the ground, and Goodman Rain continued his way all alone in Putney Commons. I was very happy because it showed me that my confidence in Peaffy was not misplaced.
