Lightning goes from the ground up...

Anyway, I officially hate you for your ability to capture the one thing I can't seem too... Then again, I don't see a lot of lightning like that... but still!

You're incredibly talented!

Big camera, big mistake xDDDD

All my friends has got dslr cameras, but I´m comfortable with mine, in fact one of their Canon 10D belongs to me, the owner bet it with me... and lose it (we took the same picture and his photograph was so blurry...), but I wasn´t interested on claiming my prize xD

By big I mean good zoom. My camera does shitty moon pics and that kind of thing. Even on it's night mode it's blah. Nothing can replace an oldschool film camera with the old school zoom lenses. Nothin'.

I prefer a wide angle with no/little distortion rather than a powerful zoom (had you ever wonder why are they so expensive?) most compact camera´s lenses are not zooms, they are only for reframing. I had taken several shots of the moon during a eclipse using the tele converter (1.75x) and they are just fine... I´m still trying to attach the camera to the telescope xDDD

It´s the best part of this, experimentation xD

You´re only partially amateur, you´ll turn into a pro without noticing it

XD I guess so. I've fiddled with lighting techniques using my webcam before and my webcam pics have actually looked fricken awesome before oo;

meltedsquirrel [2006-07-28 23:41:35 +0000 UTC]

how did you do this? because I've been trying to capture lightning all summer and I still can't get the hang of it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cesalv In reply to meltedsquirrel [2006-07-29 09:47:41 +0000 UTC]

The key is counting the seconds between flashes, if they are decreasing, the storm is coming (a bit harder but still possible), it´s easier when it´s leaving, the shutter should be set at no more than 4/5 seconds (specially if the camera has noise reduction built-in), then is only a matter of practice and a bit of anticipation, if the selftimer takes 2 seconds, the shutter will last 5 seconds and the previous flash was 15 seconds ago (for example)... count 11 seconds after the next flash and you´ll catch it almost sure, how big or it´s shape is completely random
