Yesterday I uploaded on my twitter this art: twitter.com/JPCastillo18/statu… and I wanted to share it with you here. I was so happy by the likes of people that follow me here , but it was also liked by Wayforward, the developers of the game, for some people could mean: "dude chill out, is just a like" but for me it means a lot because I company I like, faved something I made

I became a fan of River City Girls ever since the Wayforward developed the game that was released back on September 3rd 2019, and this year its sequel will be released as well. I made this art to celebrate the launch on River City Girls Zero, the first game where this lovely, cute and badass girls.

I you don't know what I am talking about, let me explain.

River City Girls Zero is part of the, sadly, not so famous beat em up series River City, also known as Kunio-kun in Japan, you might say that this franchise is one of the grandfathers of this genre. While we got in America games like River City Ransom, the franchise was not as famous as its younger brother Double Dragon, henceforth not so many games of River City were localized, but the game developer Wayforward approach ArcSystem Works (the developers of Blazblue, Guilty Gear and current owners of the River City franchise) and ask if it was possible to make a River City game, ArcSystem said yes and Wayforward delivered an EXCELLENT beat em up game that pay tribute to other River City games.

Now I am going to enter in spoiler territory here for River City Girls 1, you were warned.

When you defeat the secret final boss(es) you will get a cutscene where you will get these messages:

"You only dated them on one 16 bit game"

"That wasn't even released in the US"

This dialogue is a 4th wall breaking joke because its talking about the game: Shin Nekketsu Kōha: Kunio-tachi no Banka, a title that was only released in Japan for the Super Famicom, but thanks to Wayforward, they ported this game and named it River City Girls Zero to the Switch (and later on other consoles) and now you can play the first entry where Misako and Kyoko, but be aware it has the difficulty of the era, come to think of it River City games are quite hard, but fun.
