Description I've been revisiting some Hook and Wendy fanfics recently, and I had a thought. In most of the HookxWendy fics that I read, an adult Wendy finds herself mysteriously returned to Neverland, and one of her first encounters is almost always with Captain Hook (Que the romance!) So I was thinking, what if it wasn't Hook or Pan or the Lost Boys that she meets first, but one of the Natives? So I started forming a little story in my head of how that might go. Here's what I have so far:
_______________________________________________________________________

On the eve of Wendy's 17th birthday, she awakes lying on her back in the middle of the Neverland Jungle. She's enchanted to be back in the place of her childhood adventures and eagerly goes in search of Peter and his new crew of Lost Boys. After walking for hours, however, her enthusiasm quickly drains. The island is considerably larger and more wild than she remembers. Nothing looks familiar, and calling out for Peter only results in giving away her position to the hungry predators that stalk the island at night.

Wendy hears the cries of a distant wolf pack, and from the sounds of it, they're getting closer. Frightened, she breaks into a run and, while careening blindly through the blackened jungle, she emerges from the dense foliage only to plummet down a rocky cliff face. She's hurt, badly. Her leg is certainly broken. Just as she fears she'll become food for the wolves, a Warrior from the Native's camp finds her and comes to her aid.

The Warrior brings her before his tribal elders and they decide to help her. Their healer sets her leg and gives her herbal medicine for the pain. Wendy remembers how the Natives were their allies in the fight against Hook and his pirates. She is very grateful for their kindness.

While her leg heals, she learns what she can from her host, the same Warrior who rescued her, and his wife. They both speak a little English and are happy to teach her their language in return. These days, Peter leaves Neverland for months at a time. They don't know where he goes, but the island is always calmer while he's away. The tribe tends their crops, holds festivals and trades regularly with the faries, mermaids and pirates.

When Wendy hears this, she's shocked. The faries she could understand, but the mermaids and pirates? She recalled them being so evil when she was young. The Warrior admits that they've had their conflicts, especially when Peter is on the island, but they've also learned that in order for them all to survive here, they need to work together.

One day, after Wendy's leg is almost healed, the Warrior brings her before the Tribal Council. They tell her that they are preparing to move their camp to the northern part of the island. Every few years, they move their encampment, to seek new land for farming and to allow this part of the island to heal and regrow. Wendy is invited to join them. The Warrior she's been staying with, has offered to let her stay with him and his family. She reminds him of the daughter he lost years ago. Wendy's leg is not healed enough yet to attempt to fly, and she's grown close with her new surrogate family and the tribe as a whole. Gratefully, she accepts.

By the time they've established their new camp, Neverland's spell has taken hold of Wendy. She's forgotten her life back in England and has fully immersed herself within this new culture.

Two years pass.

Wendy is fluent in the Native language, she's become a decent hunter with a bow, and her adoptive father is preparing to approach the council with the prospect of finding her a husband. The council agrees, but tells him to wait until they've moved their camp to the western side of the island, then he can begin his search.

The Tribe's moving puts them in close enough proximity to the pirates that they can trade with them again, and it isn't long before the ship's Captain and his jolly bosun arrive with tools to swap. As is their custom, a feast is prepared with ceremonial dances and music. Wendy is excited to see these pirates she's heard so much about, particularly the fabled Hook, a man whom her father always said was a great and fearsome warrior.

When she first lays eyes on him from across the fire, something in her sparks to life. He's handsome, that much is undeniable, with crystal blue eyes as piercing as his hook. But something else about him calls to her from somewhere in the dark reaches of her long forgotten past. Just as she's forgotten her life before Neverland, so too has she forgotten her early adventures here.

Hook, on the other hand, remembers.

At first, he doesn't believe it. It can't be her; not the same scrawny, nightgown-wearing urchin that stood beside Pan while he fell into the jaws of the beast. But even in the firelight he can see it, the tell-tale kiss, perfectly hidden in the right hand corner of her full and lovely lips. She's changed. A wild and beautiful woman now looks back at him through the flames. But how did she get here? And why is she staring at him with that curious look in her eye.

Hook quickly learns of her situation and deduces the cause of her amnesia. It seems Wendy has forgotten him, and yet, she keeps starring, and even approaches him later in the evening. She's excited to speak English again and comes to him full of questions, about his crew and his ship and the nature of his missing hand. Wendy is as bold as she ever was before, and Hook finds himself enamored by her natural charm. When he and Smee leave with their hall of fresh produce, barley and cured meat, the Captain finds he can think of nothing but Wendy and her mischievous kiss.

As Wendy falls asleep that night, her body exhausted from dancing, she wonders if her father might consider the Captain when choosing her husband.
___________________________________________________________________________________

Hook and Wendy will start spending a lot of time together, drawn to one another by a powerful attraction that neither of them truly understand. Hook is completely taken by her, but he's also conflicted; knowing things about her past that she's forgotten (let alone the fact that when he first met her, she was practically a child).

There will be conflict around her marriage situation too. Her adoptive father is wary of marring her to a man who is sometimes their enemy, but at the same time he can clearly see how much she loves the Captain and wants his daughter to be happy. I like the idea that Wendy's adoptive dad will pick a suitor from the tribe and mandate that if Hook want's to win her hand he must fight for her in combat -without his Hook. That way he can be accepted by the tribe and their union will be blessed.

Will Hook fight for the woman he loves?!!!!! (duh

Aaah! Starfire! It's so good to hear from you! I hope you've been well 😊
I love Native American culture too and I've been immersing myself in a fair amount of fiction on the subject lately.
I really want to write this, and I think I will. I'll definitely need to do some research though.
What have you been working on lately?
