This just popped up as soon as I opened devianart, and I just cannot refrain from commenting.
The coloring and headdress of your {Bird-human hybrid? Harpy-esqe thing? Winged woman?} creature suggests angelcy or nobility, almost. The very fact that she is in the frame seems to create the idea of {I almost want to say fertility (Of course of the land!) but it's not quite at what I'm trying to get. Perhaps...} fruitfulness, but if you examine the background, it's rather {Not exactly depressing... Hmmm... What word captures what I'm trying to say...} eerie. Your background reminds me of the scene in Beauty and the Beast where Belle is running through the woods and gets attacked by wolves. I might just be projecting the agitation of that scene onto your print, but the likeness is there.
But the angelic look {You know- golden curls, wings, opulent jewelry- all that.} is directly belied by the creature eating {I believe it's a-} dove, which is, as I'm sure you know is the universal signal of peace. So, on top of eating something raw and freshly killed, {At least I'm assuming it's freshly killed. There doesn't seem to be any rotting.} which isn't indicative of the aforementioned species, it's feeding on what is widely considered the most innocent of animals. That might explain the background and its {Gosh, I really do not want this to be taken as an insult. I think this quality of the art might have been on purpose...} incohesiveness with the creature in your foreground, what with the snow and general look of hopelessness.
Or you could've just drawn a harpy eating a white bird in a snow wood.
So, needless to say, I was intrigued with this. Thanks for sharing!
