Description

The Bioluminescent Shamiiz (Allopiscator forcicaudalis) is a species of Micromuraenid Radiopinniserpentoid Ichthyomorph from the Bathypelagic zone of the Hetherian Ocean.

The mostly unknown creature has been described based on a handful of live sightings and a series of carcasses fished up in the ocean by fishermen.

The peculiar shape of the tail, sustained by a long and thick bone rod, gives the animal the distinctive crescent tail it uses to bolt towards prey and quickly steer the body.

The animal has excellent smell and hearing, its main senses for hunting while keeping eyesight on a minimum, only producing the photosynthetic molecules needed to see green, yellow and red lights, used by many preys and predators alike to communicate in the deep sea.

The animal has been recorded hunting by using bioluminescence on the barbs under the jaw to attract prey, wiggling them as if they are Sandcreeper tentacles; once their target is close enough they'll sprint to quickly bite down on it with the powerful jaws.

Most of the data known on the mating behaviour of these animals come from two predominantly female specimens, GRI E1863 and NLOM 4492/3, which only mated with one predominant male before death, leading researchers to believe the species is monogamous.

Predominant female specimen TUPR 12275 contained nearly mature eggs inside the duct; analyses conducted on the developed fetuses documented the presence of a very reduced natal aculeus, consistent with Ovoviviparous species seen elsewhere on the planet, thus we can safely assume the animal gives birth to live young.

Stomach contents of specimens GRI E1863, TUPR 12275, and HURP R3533 identified remains of at least eight different species of Ichthyomorphs, including Abyssal Worryfish, deep-sea Esavelids, and a species of Gymnocephalid enetodontid.

Bite marks on specimen LMBH 7708/2 hint at possible cannibalism in the species.
